The college textbook industry in America is...I believe the best (and least vulgar) term I can think of is 'highway robbery'.

For instance, my textbooks for this coming semester actually cost MORE than my tuition for the same. And on top of that, there is the annoyance of dealing with the pre-semester crowds at the bookstore. I think that the only reason I did not blow up one of the registers in annoyance was that the cashier looked at least as annoyed as I was.

If you did not procrastinate, you could buy them online. Used copies, they are less expensive.

Eh, that is the other problem with the system. All of my classes' professors have apparently moved to new editions of the books they are using. So I was not able to purchase any of them used.

There is also the renting, is there not? Someone at the bookstore was talking about this recently.

I'm happy to say

This is what the Internet is for, either that or second hand stores.

I spend more on supplies for classes and projects than most people do on books for their classes. I don't really have the bookstore crowds but I need to make sure I go to art stores away from anywhere with art classes to avoid pre-semester crazy artist crowds.

And?

This is me playing the world's tiniest violin at you. You kmew what you were getting in for so don't whinge. Study in the library using their copies. Or, you know, go spend a couple hours in the library standing over the photocopier making your own copy if you're really so incredibly povo that you can't afford to buy your own.
